Masaka LC5 chairman Vincent Ssempijja has said the district ranks among those with extremely poor revenue collections.
Ssempijja said local revenue collections contributed only 2.5% to the district budget.
He disclosed this during a district council meeting recently.
He said the central Government had already warned the district over the matter.
“We must pull up our socks on the issue of the revenue collections otherwise the district is bound to face serious consequences,†he said.
He warned people who had started sabotaging the privatisation of graduated tax in the district to stop the action.
Ssempijja said revenue had doubled in the sub-counties where the collection of graduated tax had been tendered.
He said the district council had backed the move to tender the collection of graduated tax because the system had proved effective.
Ssempijja appealed to residents to embrace graduated tax because it was among the strategies the district had laid to recover from the acute financial crisis.
He said the financial crisis had affected the smooth flow of service delivery in the district.
