UGANDA is to host this year’s international conference for people living with HIV/AIDS, report Raymond Baguma and Lillian Nalumansi.
Uganda becomes the second African country after South Africa, to host the bi-annual global conference.
Two hundred and fifty Ugandans living with AIDS are expected to attend the conference, while 650 are from Europe and other African countries.
Maj. Ruranga Rubaramira, an AIDS activist, chairs the conference to take place at Speke Resort Munyonyo from October 26 to 30.
Ruranga said people living with AIDS will drive the agenda of the conference. President Yoweri Museveni is scheduled to open the conference whose theme is The Dawn of New Positive Leadership. USAID, Irish AID and the World Bank are sponsoring the conference. It is the 11th global conference for people living with AIDS.
