MEMBERS of Parliament and local leaders in Kabale have endorsed Mr Adison Kakuru as the compromise candidate in the forthcoming district chairperson bye-elections.

During a meeting held on September 28, at White Horse Regency Hotel, Kabale, leaders further agreed that Dr Francis Mwesigye Runumi be deployed by the Government “to an appropriate post he is happy with.”

President Museveni last week appointed Runumi commissioner for planning in the Ministry of Health.

Runumi, a former Reform Agenda activist, was the Kabale chairperson before losing to Kakuru. Subsequently Runumi challenged Kakuru’s election in court, citing malpractice. The court nullified the election, but when fresh elections were ordered Runumi declined to contest.

The meeting, to discuss political harmony in Kabale, was convened by NPC Dr Crispus Kiyonga, and attended by Runumi and Kakuru, according to the minutes seen by The New Vision.

Over 35 people attended the meeting, including Minister of Internal Affairs Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Hope Mwesigye Ruhindi, MPs Steven Bamwanga, Serapio Rukundo, Jack Sabiiti, Pereza Ahabwe, Avitus Tibarimbasa, and Henry Banyenzaki

During the Sunday meeting, the leaders agreed that the management of the district affairs should reflect consideration for equity and justice.
