UGANDA has made history here qualifying for the World Cup for the fist time ever. The U-19 team crashed Kenya by four wickets in the semifinal tie of the International Cricket Council (ICC) regional World Cup qualifiers here yesterday.

Papua New Guinea also beat Namibia by four wickets in the second semi-final to join Uganda at the world summit next year.

Emmanuel Issanez was the country's hero, leading his team to victory — an Independence Day gift.

“We have always had a good run over Kenya and we were not ready to let them resurrect at this stage. This win is an Independence Day gift to our country,” skipper Clive Kyangungu said after the match.

Put in to field, Uganda started on a false note giving away 52 runs in the first 10 overs.

The side quickly recomposed and started bowling with great purpose.

Man-of-match Issanez (2/31) made the vital break-through, trapping Patel Kalpesh (32) leg before wicket and Ronald Semanda did not hesitate to run out Timothy Mwange (12).

At 72/3 in 15 overs, the Crane boys were back into the game, limiting the Kenyans at 132 all out.

Ochan dismissed Patel Malhar (8), Hafiz Manji (12), Rajesh Budhia (00) and the last wicket of Fariham Ismail (18).

Uganda then started the chase on the right note with Arthur Kyobe (44) leading the strike.

Both Uganda and Papua New Guinea now qualify to represent the region at the 2004 U-19 World Cup due in Bangladesh.
