SIX female fighters of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels on Wednesday surrendered to the Uganda People Defence Force (UPDF) at Patongo detachment in Pader.

The UPDF spokesman for 5th Division based in Lira, 2nd Lieutenant Chris Magezi, said the female fighters were in captivity since 1999.

He said another rebel also handed himself to UPDF detachment at Kalongo with two guns.

“This is a sign that this civil war will come to an end because many rebels are surrendering. We we are depriving Kony of access to abduct more people,” he said.

Our forces have registered success during a search operation this week where we recovered another two gun and rescued 11 abductees at Pubudo,” Magezi said.

Magezi said the security situation in most disturbed areas in Pader and Lira districts have been stepped up in anticipation of LRA rebel attack.
