THE Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has organised a two-day privatisation exhibition to enable divested companies showcase their achievements over the past ten years to the general public, reports <b>Steven Odeu and Mary Karugaba.</b>
THE Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has organised a two-day privatisation exhibition to enable divested companies showcase their achievements over the past ten years to the general public, reports Steven Odeu and Mary Karugaba.
The two day event on the theme, ‘Privatisation and You’ is scheduled to run from October 31 to November 1, 2003 at the Nile Hotel International Conference Centre.
Speaking to stakeholders on Monday at the Conference Centre, Michael Opagi (left), the Director Privatisation Unit (PU), said the exhibition was intended to create a positive public awareness on the benefits of privatisation and its overall contribution to a private sector led economic development process.
He said despite the positive contribution of Privatisation to social and economic development, the general public was still not informed and had occasionally expressed skepticism concerning the impact of the divestiture and reform process.
“Through this event, we want to showcase some of the results of privatisation so that the public can appreciate just how much privatisation policy has impacted on them individually,†Opagi said.
“No single day passes in the life of a Ugandan without him or her interacting in one way or another with the fruits of Privatisation.â€
Since the inception of reform and divestiture policy in 1991, Government has divested out of 113 companies
The privatised enterprises have increased output and efficiency whilst generating the much needed tax revenue.Ends
