A Thailand firm, Cholburi Muang Thong Co. Ltd, is to invest in banana processing in Mbarara district.
A team, lead by Anant Baoprasertkul, the mana- ger of the company was last Friday taken on a study tour of the district to explore opportunities for investing in a banana processing.
The Thailand team of six investors, which was accompanied by James Mulwana, the Royal Thai Consulate, was told that Mbarara has the potential to produce enough bananas for their investments throughout the year.
The district agriculture officer, Dr. Beatrice Byarugaba, said Mbarara produces over 50 metric tonnes of bananas per annum, which is half of the national level, of 100 metric tonnes. The team also visited banana farms.Ends
