STATE minister for industry, Jennifer Namuyangu Byakatonda (right) has apologised to Emmanuel Cardinal Wamala for blasting him over his anti third-term stance.

Namuyangu said she would meet the Cardinal and make a face-to-face apology.

But she insisted that she did not attack the Cardinal personally and that her apology was meant to put the record straight.

“I regret the embarrassment caused and I honestly apologise to Cardinal Wamala,” she said at a press conference at Parliament yesterday.

She was quoted on Monday as telling off the Cardinal to mind Church offertory and morals of the laity rather than meddling in politics.

Namuyangu said her comments were directed to all religious leaders to rehabilitate people’s morals rather than politicking.

Last month the Cardinal said lifting the two-term limit for the presidency would breed dictators.

On September 30, lay Catholic leaders issued a statement in his support.

Wamala reiterated this at a meeting with leaders of the Justice Forum last week.

Namuyangu refused to say whether religious leaders should comment on politics.

“I don’t know. You will not get my opinion on that,” she said.
