DORCUS Inzikuru, silver medallist at the just concluded All Africa Games, will be among the 11 Ugandans that will be part of Africa’s team to the Afro-Asian games.

The maiden games are due in the Indian city of Hyderabad, October 24-Nov 1.

Inzikuru, who won Uganda’s only silver at the Abuja games’ 5000m race and Boniface Kiprop, who finished fourth in the 10000m race, will be Uganda’s only flag bearers on track.

The duo will be trying to beat the great field of renown long distance runners, who they raced against in Abuja come October 30th, the last day of the athletics competition in the event.

Uganda will also be represented by bronze medallists Sadat Tebazalwa and Jolly Katongole in boxing together with team captain Joseph Lubega, who was co-opted at the Africa team after his good performance.

The top four in both athletics and boxing made up the African team.

Also another bronze medallist Irene Ajambo, together with Isma Katamba, Moses Kimbowa and Badru Namujje, all weightlifters, will be at the games, which will officially be opened on Friday.

Winner of three gold medals at the All Africa Games Mary Omagbemi was Saturday voted the most valuable athlete at the championships.

Omagbemi, who was captain of the Nigerian team, won a trophy and $3,000 in cash.

She was awarded the prize by an independent panel made up of games officials and journalists covering the games.

The 35-year-old athlete has hinted of her intention to quit international competition after the games. The games ended on Saturday with Nigeria topping the medal list.
