Ugandan trio hopes for success in India

THREE Ugandan boxers are preparing for an uphill task of winning medals against some of the greatest boxers from Asia at the Afro Asian Games set to start Friday in Hyderabad, India.

THREE Ugandan boxers are preparing for an uphill task of winning medals against some of the greatest boxers from Asia at the Afro Asian Games set to start Friday in Hyderabad, India.

Jolly Katongole, Sadat Tebazalwa and Joseph Lubega will fight against some of the gold medallists at the Asian games and other top performers at the just concluded All Africa Games in Nigeria.

Competition will be in the disciplines of swimming, football, hockey, shooting, tennis, athletics, weightlifting and boxing. However Ugandan athletes will only participate in the last three.

Dorcus Inzikuru and Boniface Kiprop (athletics), and Badru Namujje, Moses Kimbowa, Isma Katamba and Irene Ajambo (weightlifting) will also represent Uganda.

Meanwhile the last contingent of athletes and officials from Abuja are expected this morning.

The contingent is expected to arrive at 6.45pm, but without Uganda’s silver medallist Inzikuru and bronze winners Ajambo, Katongole and Tebazalwa.

Sports state minister Henry Oryem Okello also sent a congratulatory message to the team, and in particular soft ball and baseball members, who impressed at the continental games.
