THE National Political Commissar, Dr. Crispus Kiyonga, has won the defamation case brought against him by Busongora North MP Christopher Kibanzanga.

The High Court yesterday refused to hold Kiyonga liable over accusations that he defamed Kibanzanga by connecting him to the 2001-post presidential election Kasese attack.

During the attack, a number of people died and a lot of property was destroyed. Kiyonga said he believed the attackers were not ADF rebels. He said the attack was orchestrated by politicians in and outside the area who were not happy with President Yoweri Museveni’s victory. Kiyonga said the aggrieved MPs had campaigned for Dr. Kizza Besigye.

Justice Okumu Wengi, who presided over the case, said Kibanzanga did not prove that he was the MP Kiyonga referred to.
