FEDERATION of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) has disagreed with its lawyers on how to handle the Top TV case.

Top TV, through their owners Christian Life Ministries, filed a case accusing FUFA of unfairly demoting the club from the Nile Special Super League.

Information from the Mendo corridors says the federation had instructed its lawyers to inform court that football matters are not handled there (court) but instead, the lawyers filed a defense of FUFA’s decision.

FUFA lawyers Mwesigwa Rukutana and Company advocates filed their defense insisting that the demotion of Top TV was lawful and was meant to keep up the quality of football in the country.

“I have neither read the defense nor talked to the lawyers but our instructions (to the lawyers) before we left the country was that they inform lawyers of our statutes and why we are not allowed to go in the courts of law,” said Mawanda yesterday.

“I think I will be in position to comment after speaking to them.”
FIFA, CAF and FUFA statutes do not allow football-related cases to go to court.

Despite finishing above the drop zone, Top TV was demoted for putting the game of football into disrepute after walking off the pitch contesting the referees’ poor decisions during their last league game against Express. They were down 2-0 at the time.

That was at the height of match fixing allegations involving title hopefuls SC Villa and Express. An independent probe is currently investigating the game.
