KOTIDO chief administrative officer Walter Iriama was at a loss yesterday, after he was ordered to account for funds used by his predecessors, reports Cyprian Musoke.

Several district officers including the former chief administrative officer and his finance officer, Charles Anyakun, left the district in the Auditor General’s bad books, after failing to account for over sh81m.

The money was queried in the Auditor General’s report on the district accounts for the financial year ending June 1999 as ‘dubious’ expenditure.

“A total of sh81,410,130 paid to various officials of the district to carry out activities in the district remained unaccounted for at the time of writing this report. In the absence of accountability, this expenditure remains highly dubious,” AG John Muwanga noted.

Appearing before the local government accounts committee yesterday, Iriama said the former CAO, who left for another district, was responsible for sh12m un-vouched expenditure. It was in form of payments that lacked supporting documents, in whose absence it was deemed fraudulent.

The committee said accountability for a remaining sh1.8m be produced, or the former CAO be made to pay it from his salary.
