Five days after the Lord’s Resistance Army boss “Brigadier” Yardin Tabuley was killed, Kalaki county in Kaberamaido district has continued to be the scene of bitter battles.

The army yesterday rescued 15 rebel captives in Kalaki in another battle.

Quoting intelligence reports yesterday, the army said Kony had ordered that Tabuley’s body be buried at his ancestral home in Palabek in Kitgum district.

Army spokesman Major Shaban Bantariza said three rebels were killed and one prisoner of war identified as commander Okello was captured in the Kalaki battle which began shortly after 9,00am. He said the army recovered three SMGs, one RPG pipe, 14 magazines with 400 bullets.

“The death toll may be higher because the battle is still going on,” Bantariza said.

The army has also confirmed that another rebel officer identified as “Lt. Col.” Selestino Akuri, was killed last Friday in Kilaki.

So far 19 rebels have been killed in the five-day battle in Kalaki.

The commanding officer of the UPDF 3rd division, Col. Andrew Gutti said of yesterday’s clash, “It was a successful battle.”

He said the battle took place south of Kakure primary school near lake Kioga.

Maj. Vincent Labi who coordinated the operation from Kalaki detach said, “We had sealed off the area from the north, west and south leaving them the eastern axis that led towards the lake.”
