FUFA abandons court proceedings

FEDERATION of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) will not go to court when their case against Top TV comes up for mention this week.

FUFA say football matters are never settled in courts of law, and that is the new line they will stick to.

Top TV, through their owners Christian Life Ministries, sued FUFA for wrongly demoting them from the Nile Special Super League (NSSL) despite finishing above the relegation zone. They also applied for a court injunction to stop the federation organising next year’s league before their case is heard.

Federation secretary Haruna Mawanda said FUFA will stick to the statutes that govern football in the world. “It is just that people are misinterpreting the statutes. They know what it means going to court and we will not since these are football matters,” said Mawanda.

“Our lawyers ( Mwesigwa and Rukutana company advocates) have withdrawn the defence and changed it according to our demands. We had asked them to file a new one putting it in line with the statutes that govern us,” confirmed Mawanda yesterday.
