STATE House has promised to save senior presidential advisor Kintu Musoke from a bankruptcy petition over an unpaid bank loan

STATE House has promised to save senior presidential advisor Kintu Musoke from a bankruptcy petition over an unpaid bank loan.

State House legal advisor Mike Chibita has written to the Managing Director of Orient Bank saying the President’s Office owes the former Premier sh36m which will be released soon to settle the debt and avert the bankruptcy proceedings.

The letter dated October 27, with a State House heading, was recently presented to the Commercial Court during the hearing of the petition by Kintu Musoke’s lawyer, Muzamir Kibedi.

“This is to confirm that this office
(State House) owes him (Kintu Musoke) sh36m. This money has been requisitioned from the Ministry of Finance. As soon as it’s released your client will be able to settle his indebtness to you. We therefore appreciate your understanding in this matter,” Chibita said.

The trial judge, James Ogoola, summoned Kintu Musoke and the State House accounting officer to appear in court on November 18 to explain the debt after the lawyers for the parties failed to agree on the ammount.

“We need Mr. Kintu Musoke to come here and tell us about the debt then we can see how to proceed,” said Ogoola.
Kibedi, quoting an affidavit from his client, said the debt had been re-negotiated and reduced to sh33,779,970 instead of sh117m as claimed by the bank.

Musoke also denied claims that he had failed to pay the debt of sh33m.
He said the Government owed him sh36m in unpaid remuneration as a presidential advisor.
