FUFA is yet to secure sh60m for Uganda Cranes World Cup/Nations Cup return leg qualifier in Mauritius next Saturday.

With no money expected from the annual $250,000 (sh500m) FIFA grant and the net sh22m from the first leg hosted at Nakivubo, where Cranes won 3-0, already utilised to pay the outstanding debts, FUFA has resorted to its only remaining tactic — borrowing for survival.

“What I can tell you is that we are working very hard to see that the team travels to Mauritius. We are going to borrow money. This is a major tournament that we have,” said FUFA acting treasurer Ahmed Wadrif over the trip.

Wadrif said that the money from the first match was, among others, used to pay for the tickets for professional players Ibrahim Sekajja, Sulaiman Tenywa and match officials.

About sh32m had been budgeted for the trip but more money is needed to pay allowances, home upkeep and per diem plus Namboole Hotel bills.

Cranes will play two build ups on Sunday and Tuesday against Tanzania and not Kenya before the trip.
