Mukono was the best performing of the six districts where a review of the activities of district land tribunals was conducted recently.

The survey, conducted by the Uganda Land Alliance (ULA), said Mukono handled 103 of the 255 cases in the districts covered. Lira performed worst with only three cases a year since the tribunals became operational.

It said of the 255 cases filed, 218 (85%) were pending, 13% resolved and 2% referred.
It said 35% of the cases involved trespass, 27% boundary disputes, 19% fraud, 11% evictions and 8% inheritance.

Buganda region (Mukono and Nakasongola) registered no inheritance case, with two of the three cases reported in Lira. In Mbale, women filed all the 50 cases, but only three had been resolved.
