THE Violent Crime Crack Unit (VCCU) and Police have busted a racket of armed robbers in Nakasongola.
Nakasongola DISO Lt. Francis Muganzi recently said they arrested nine suspects and recovered five firearms.
He said the gang headed by Richard Mbazira, was arrested last week, following a failed robbery in Nabiswere sub-county.
He said four of the suspected thugs who were arrested, revealed the names of their comrades, leading to the arrest of the whole gang.
Muganzi said the gang is was operating in the districts of Nakasongola, Luwero, Masindi, Kibuga, Mubende and Mukono.
The arrested are, Fred Bashija, Benon Tumuhirwe, Alex Batendereka, Livingstone Macumura, Walter Okello, Fred Bashaija, Sunday Ismail and Ouke Orobo.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Mulondo reports that Police in Fort Portal recently arrested six suspected armed thugs and recovered four guns.
The district CID chief, Steven Baruti, said some of the suspects were picked from Kampala.
Baruti said robbery was on the increase in the district.
