Nebbi district reserve force commander Major Ali Cama has directed that the soldiers’ routine patrols be stopped forthwith to restore public confidence.

Frank Mugabi reports that , however, the order does not affect intelligence operations.

This follows an appeal to the Government by residents of Parombo and Nyaravur sub-counties to relocate the 300-strong UPDF detachment at Angal.

During a recent security meeting at Parombo Community Centre, the residents said they felt insecure since the soldiers were deployed in the area early this year. They accused the soldiers of corruption and high-handedness.

“They confiscate even the smallest quantity of merchandise, claiming it’s contra-band. They have taken on traffic police duties; they check car for licences and tyres. They impound fish, claiming it’s from Congo,” Henry Oribi, Parwo councillor, said.
