THE Arrow Group militia in Teso has been directed not to kill Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels who surrender.

The Arrow Group coordinator, Musa Ecweru, said they had come up with the decision after realising that a big portion of the rebel group had been misled to join the rebellion.

The order overrules the earlier express instructions at the wake of the rebel incursions into the Teso sub-region in June that had asked the Arrow Group militia to kill any armed person found in the bushes.

He said Kony commanders had been deploying misled youths to fight Government forces.

He said the group, comprising children abducted from the region, was the one carrying out atrocities in the area.

He said most of the captives had renounced the war.

“The directive now is that those who have lost bearing in the region should surrender and they should be received and handed over to the UPDF and Arrow Group,” Ecweru said.

Some of the captives are being treated for gun shot wounds.
