THE Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) on Thursday rescued 16 abductees and recovered looted goods from the LRA rebels after an assault on a rebel hideout in Aswa River Valley, Palaro sub-county.
UPDF 4th Division spokesman Lt. Paddy Ankunda said the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels fled in disarray towards Kitgum district.
The items recovered included dry meat, cassava chips and cooking utensils.
Meanwhile, three LRA fighters, including LRA vice chairman Vincent Otti’s wife, surrendered to the UPDF in Kitgum district.
Area-based UPDF 503 brigade commander, Lt. Col. Samuel Kiwanuka, said the trio were at the headquarters.
Gulu district officials said the district has been relatively peaceful for months save for last week’s LRA incursion into Aswa county.
