Light of Christ Band, a 22-person Gospel music ensemble, based at Light of Christ Church, Nyanama, promises to set the crowd ablaze when they launch their debut album in a live concert this Sunday.
The event, to take place at Christian Life Church, Bwaise, at 3:00pm, will feature some of Ugandan gospel artists.
On this line up is Betty Nakibuuka, Martin Seku, Kilwana Africa, Joan Makumbi, Joseph Segawa, Esther Mponye and The Exties. Entrance will be sh3,000, which is inclusive of a free tape.
Katonda Tasosola is a six-track package produced and recorded by producer X-Zone at Cream Sound Studio, Najja.
Pastor Bbowaazi Friday Kalule, a member of the group says: “We have decided to launch at Christian Life Church, Bwaise because that Church is big enough to accommodate the number of people we expect.”
Regardless of the group’s size, the voice of Theo Friday Kalule, the lead vocalist, is always heard.
Pastor Bbowaazi is also featured on one track. Although the group is only launching their debut album this year, they have been actively performing on the Gospel circuit since 1999. Why has it taken them so long to record?
“We wanted to take our time so that we could come out with a quality product. We feel that Katonda Tasosola is representative of our efforts and talent and definitely worth the wait,” says Pastor Bbowaazi.
To a considerable extent, I do agree with that statement. Theo’s vocal effervescence is captivating. A cross between Joanita Kawalya and Mariam Ndagire, Theo sings with fervour, grace, but most of all, she delivers with conviction.
Theo says she owes her musical inspiration to UK-based singer Phiona Mukasa.
