The inaugural Queen of Lake Victoria pageant at Imperial Resort Beach, Entebbe was fraught with disaster from the start. It was poorly organised, the two Mcs - Bina Baby and Dennis bumbled about on stage not quite knowing what to do or who exactly the contestants were.

Meanwhile the stage set up resembled the interior packaging of a box of chocolates one would buy from a Shell Select shop. As regards the girls, while they came in all sizes, their command of the English language was very suspect. Just about all the contestants struggled to comprehend what was being said or what to answer. But in the end, the top five places were scooped by Ugandan’s –– 23-year-old Prossy Najjuma took top honours, Nagujja Pheonamyra came second while Gloria Bananuka took third place. A Kenyan was in sixth position. The contestants were trained by local designer Marion Kugonza.
