KAMPALA — A Makerere University student was yesterday charged with stealing a mobile phone and air time card valued at sh234,000. Sula Kungu, 23, denied stealing the phone from Zipporah Nandobya, 28, and was remanded to Luzira Prison by KCC Grade One Magistrate Deborah Wanume.

Jail term
JINJA — A 42-year-old man was yesterday jailed for two weeks for stealing four cobs of maize. John Semadala pleaded guilty to committing the crime on December 2 at Soweto. He sent the packed court laughing when he said in mitigation that a strong urge for roasted maize forced him to steal. He said he had no money at the time to buy the maize.
