NEW Vision sub-editor Joseph Kabuleta was crowned as 2003 Sports Journalist of The Year by fellow scribes at Wednesday’s fete sponsored by Nile Breweries.
Kabuleta, also USPA chairman, became the second person to claim the coveted prize for the second straight year in USPA’S 30-year history.
The New Vision’s sports desk exhibited supremacy with four other journalists; Norman Katende, Ronnie Kintu, Mpalanyi Ssentongo and Michael Nsubuga scooping honours on the night.
Kabuleta was also the best sports columnist while Katende was the best in covering the Nile special Super League, also winning it for the second year running.
Ronnie Kintu was the best writer of the Castle Lager Cricket League, beating Innocent Ndawula to the winner’s prize.
Monitors’ Mohammed Dhakaba was voted best writer (English), with Katende finishing runner up.
Mpalanyi reached another milestone in his remarkable photojournalism career when he was voted best photographer for the third consecutive year.
Mpalanyi and Nsubuga have also won international awards for their pictures.
Nile Breweries marketing director Mike Olsen hailed the enchanted contribution of the media towards the development of football in the country.
“We have sponsored football for the past five years and its because of such journalists that we have managed to be a success as sponsors,†said Olsen.
