KAMPALA — A UPDF soldier has sued the Government in the High Court seeking compensation for unlawful detention. Second Lt. Charles Mayanja, 39, of Kapeeka in Luweero district told the court recently that he was detained without trial for over nine years at the condemn section of Luzira Prisons on robbery charges.

Repair starts
Sembabule — The multi-million shilling renovation of the Bigobyamugyenyi eco-tourist site in Ntusi has started. The district chairman, Herman Ssentongo, recently told The New Vision that the project would be complete in 2005.

30 face loss
KAMPALA — Thirty-three residents of Makindye Division are facing eviction after Dr. Martin Kato sued them in Nakawa Court for illegally occupying his 4.27 hectare piece of land. Kato told court recently that they have been occupying the land since 1986 when he was detained in Luzira Prisons.

‘Polls fair’
KAMPALA — The elections of LC3 chairpersons, women councillors and directly-elected councillors in the newly-created sub-counties have been successfully concluded, a recent statement issued by the Electoral Commission said. The commission said it is compiling a display register for the by-elections for Kabale district chairperson.
