Wakiso district will this financial year get sh741.4b from Government transfers, reports
The Minister of Local Government, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegyere, in his paper on decentralisation and modernisation of Uganda, said this was the biggest amount ever to be handled by the district.

Government transfers in the district rose from 31.5b in the financial year 1993/94 to sh669 last year.
Amuge Akol, a commissioner in the ministry, presented the paper to the district leaders at their headquarters recently.
Kabwegyere appealed to the residents to closely monitor Government transfers to the district.

He said, “A lot more development, than is currently noticed, is expected since so much has gone to the districts.”
He regretted that corruption and accountability were key problems of implementing decentralisation.
Kabwegyere appealed to elected leaders, including MPs, to take up direct responsibility in following up funds given to their areas.
