Parliament has passed a motion in recognition of the winning of a special African Information and Communications award of excellence by works minister John Nasasira, reports John Odyek.
The award was given by the South African Ministry of Communication.
Emmanuel Dombo (Bunyole) who moved the motion on Thursday asked Parliament to recognise Nasasira because of the great effort he has made in improving information and communications technology in Uganda.
The motion was unanimously passed. Nasasira received the award on November 8 at Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.
South Africa’s minister for communication Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri, in a letter, said the ICT achievers award was an annual event to celebrate excellence and leadership in the ICT sector.
Dombo said Nasasira was recognised for the reforms in the telecommunications sector since 1996 which included the setting up of an independent regulator and liberalising the sector.
