CATHOLIC and Church of Uganda bishops have said they have rights to express their views on political matters.

The Bishop of Lugazi Diocese, Mathias Ssekamanya and Paul Luzinda of Mukono Diocese said this in a joint press conference at the diocesan house in Mukono on Monday.

“Why do you have to bar us from expressing our views on political matters of the country? We are part of the society,” Sekamanya said.

He said as church leaders, they play a vital role in evangelisation and fighting poverty in households.

Sekamanya said he would continue commenting on matters that he thinks affect the people he serves.

He said that church leaders have to unite if they want to fight a successful battle against poverty in households.

Luzinda said the Church wanted to build partnership with the Government in order to create peace and development in the country.

He said, “We are free to comment on issues that affect our society and we shall always do so.”
