FORMER FUFA boss Twaha Kakaire (right) has accused his successor Dennis Obua of squandering what he describes as a solid financial base that he set for the soccer body.

Kakaire cites the FIFA grant and the Nile Breweries sponsorship as ventures he secured.

“But Dennis Obua has abused both. I am mourning the losses,”

complained Kakaire on Monday citing FUFA’s recent loss of the Nile Breweries sponsorship.

Nile’s funding of the super league was brokered during Kakaire’s term. FIFA also made Uganda a beneficiary of its $250,000 annual fund after efforts by Kakaire’s executive to develop women football.

Kakaire could not hide his intentions of making a comeback “if asked, I would certainly like to return.”

Kakaire was however quick to add that he is no angel. “I also had my weaknesses, but also remember that I was working in harsher conditions. I did not have offers like the FIFA grant.”

He then questioned the cost of the building housing the FUFA offices. He insists that the project was not worth even half the $480,000 FUFA claims it cost.

His complaints stretch to Obua’s failure to call a general assembly within the allotted time.

Kakaire is however amongst those who feel the recent soccer probe was unnecessary. “FUFA’s institutions like the general assembly were competent enough to handle the matter.”

Chris Rwanika, who was secretary in Kakaire’s term, on his part argues that the best that NCS can do is make comments on the probe report. He insists that NCS should submit the report to its owner who initially asked for it — FUFA.

According to Rwanika, it is also time the FUFA constitutional review committee was revisited. Amongst this committee’s recommendations, was a reduction of the general assembly and channelling of 10% of all the grants from FIFA/CAF to regional associations.

Kakaire also wants immediate implementation of the IGG’s recommendation that FUFA immediately accounts for all monies or face prosecution.

Asked what solutions he has, Kakaire put the task to fellow delegates.

“As delegates we have been called all sorts of names like potato growers. We can only disprove this by doing the needful (voting out Obua),” insisted Kakaire.
