PETROL shortage, which hit the country at the close of the year, continued yesterday with most filling stations only having diesel and kerosene. In Kampala, the few stations with fuel had long queues.

Shell Nakawa manager Geofrey Muyanja, said whatever little petrol they received ran out because of the high demand.

He said the station was not selling petrol to those who preferred taking it in jerrycans, adding that some of them just wanted to keep the fuel.

Shell Uganda continued to sell petrol at sh2,600 while the price in other stations ranged from sh2,800 to sh3,100.

Hajji Omar Ahmed Mandela, the proprietor of City Oil said there were no petroleum products in Kisumu and Eldoret, the only two places where City Oil buys its products from.

Hass filling station in Mengo-Kisenyi had some petrol because they had a sizeable reserve, but the managers said they had not replenished of recent.

The Uganda fuel dealers’ chairman, Ivan Kyayonka assured Ugandans that the diesel would not run out, saying the shortage had only affected petrol.

On Tuesday, energy minister Daudi Migereko said a ship carrying 16 million litres of fuel destined for East Africa had docked at Mombasa.

The Government is planning to discuss the high prices of petroleum products with petroleum companies in Uganda.
