BOBBY Williamson has promised to make the basic changes that will transform the Cranes into a more vibrant and penetrative troop in their ultimate Group A fixtures.

Cranes face Somalia on Wednesday and Tanzania on Friday at Nakivubo. The Scottish boss’ tactical decisions in Cranes’ central midfield have come under massive censure, with the manner in which Cranes midfield has been assembled in the games against Rwanda and Zanzibar being the most glaring of tactical decisions.

Several pundits have been highly skeptical about Tony Mawejje’s role as a wide midfielder and Owen Kasule-Patrick Ochan’s mutual duties as holding cards.

“We are definitely going to make changes, although I will not tell you in which areas. We are also working on new ideas and trying to improve on certain basics that we didn’t get right against Zanzibar,” Williamson stated yesterday.

Although Williamson kept the changes close to his chest, it’s likely that Steven Bengo might step into the starting team with either Ochan or Kasule sacrificed and Mawejje relocated to a holding role he might serve better.

In the absence of natural left-footed midfielders, Bengo finds himself as the best possible choice to eat through the Cranes left flank.

At the same time, Centre-half Joseph Owino will miss Cranes’s remaining matches after straining a knee injury.
