THE Government has been asked to take action against child sacrifice, which is rampant in the central part of the country.

Quoting sections of the Constitution, the Bishop of Kiyinda-Mityana Diocese, Prof. Joseph Anthony Zziwa, also asked the Police to commit to their duty of protecting life and property.

“The killing of children in the Buganda region has reached alarming levels. Our Constitution highlights the right of children to every social and economic benefit and their right to be loved and cared for by their parents” Zziwa said.

“Chapter 12 of the Constitution also highlights the duty of the Police, which is to keep law and order and to detect and prevent crime,” he said, adding that those who sacrifice children are guerrillas.

Zziwa was speaking while presiding over the Professions celebrations of the Catholic Sisters of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Reparatrix at the Sisters’ convent Gogonya in Wakiso district on Sunday.

Eight novices became nuns after taking their first vows of poverty, chastity and obedience.

Six Sisters made their perpetual vows, while 19 others, who included the congregation’s Superior, Sr. Mary Anne Christine Kizza, celebrated 25 years in religious life. Sr. Mary Gerald Babirye celebrated 50 years and Sr. Anastazia Nagawa 60 years in the church.
