KABWOHE-ITENDERO town council has been dragged to court for failing to pay sh6.9m. Nathan Katwire, through Kwizera and Company Advocates, filed a suit at the Bushenyi chief magistrate’s court, accusing the council of failing to pay him after collecting garbage.

“In January 2008, I signed a contract with the town council to collect garbage. After working for over four months, nothing was paid to me,” he said, adding that the town council dodges to pay people contracted to offer services.

“I was shocked when the town clerk wrote to me, saying my contract had been terminated. I was told that the money for paying contractors had been diverted to do others things,” he said.

The town clerk, David Betega, said Katwire never had the equipment to collect rubbish.

“We evaluated his services after two months and found them wanting.
“Garbage was littered all over the place. This man had no vehicle to collect garbage, he was just hiring from other people,” he said.

Betega said the council had to lend Katwire its vehicle to collect garbage, which prompted them to terminate his contract.
