THE lawyer representing Arua Municipality MP Hussein Akbar Godi, has demanded for a speedy trial of his client, who is accused of murdering his wife.

Norris Maranga asked the Mukono Magistrates Court yesterday how far the prosecution had gone with investigations into the case.

Godi is a prime suspect in the murder of his wife Rehema Ceasar at Lugojja village in Mukono district on December 4.
Rehema was shot dead on the Mukono Kayunga road and her body was dumped near Mpoma satellite station.
Godi was charged on December 12 and remanded to Luzira Prison.

State attorney Caroline Agonzibwa said investigations were ongoing and asked court to give the Police more time.

“Investigations into this matter are still at the initial stages. Prosecution will inform court as soon as they are complete,” Agonzibwa said.

Grade One Magistrate Charles Kadisi directed the prosecution to inform court about the state of investigations when the case comes up for mention on February 12.

Dressed in a grey suit, Godi appeared exhausted during the 10-minute session. As soon the case was adjourned, Godi was whisked to a court cell where his friends visited him.

Maranga is the third lawyer to represent Godi since the arrest. He has been defended by lawyers Abdu Katuntu and Sam Njuba.
