THE sky is the limit for Pastor Simeon Kayiwa of Namirembe Christian Fellowship. The man has read too many books, he has a doctorate in divinity and another in Theology, two subjects (that might be different on a technical level) but seem exactly the same to most of us lay people.

After being a professor by the Latin University of Theology in the USA, the same institution that awarded him the two doctorates and master’s degree, Kayiwa opened up a branch of the US-based University at his Namirembe Christian Fellowship, offering theology alongside other traditional courses leading to the awards from Bachelors to PhD by correspondence.

Now, we hear, Kayiwa was recently awarded yet another Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) degree by the United Graduate College and Seminary, USA. D.Litt, a university degree which is above Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), is issued on the basis of research and its publication.

The D.Litt. is awarded to candidates whose record of published work and research shows originality and constitutes a distinguished and sustained achievement. University committee and board approval is required, and candidates must provide documented mastery of a particular area or field. In the US, the B.Litt is almost always an honourary degree often conferred to those who have contributed to the humanities and/or society.

There are, however, very few who have earned “D.Litt.” programmes on the basis of 30 graduate credit hours and a dissertation. What we know is that the award was a result of his high profile scholarly research work and sustenance of the same and from his high standard publications (The working miracles and the Supernatural unfolded).
