THE best candidate in Rukungiri district in last year’s O’Level exams lost her father when she was three years old.

It is her mother who has been
struggling to pay school fees.

Phionah Namara from Immaculate Heart Girls’ Secondary School scored aggregate 12, becoming the best student in the district.

“I was surprised. I did not expect to perform very well because I had never been the first in class. I used to be among the best 10. It is God’s mercy and love for an orphan like me that explains my performance,” she said.

“I grew up with my mother Agnes Nakyanzi, who is a midwife at Kajara Health Centre. I prayed to God that I should not discourage her by performing poorly, because I knew how she was struggling to get my school fees,” said Namara.

She said God had answered her prayers.

Namara, however, said she also worked hard.

“I am glad my dream has come true and I wish to become a medical doctor,” she said.

Namara noted: “There are very few doctors in this country, besides I like dealing with people.”
