Sponsor Ntambi or he will vanish!

EDITOR—I congratulate Stephen Ntambi and his colleagues of Makerere University for their outstanding role in the prototype car project which was exhibited in Italy.

The output of these students shows that we have the potential but lack political will and logistical support to exceed our potential in the areas of science and technology, research as well as employment creation. President Yoweri Museveni is the fountain of honour in Uganda and has a final say without hindrance on how public resources should be used. This right has often been used by the president to give out public resources to individuals selectively. Ugandans now have a project on which the president needs to make similar investment decisions.

This is none other than the General Transportation Research Centre project which Ntambi and his colleagues want to put up. Surely on this project Ugandans will not ask for accountability.

Ntambi’s idea should not be ignored like that of the Kyambogo University students who developed car security systems SP1 and SP2 but nobody in Government took notice! It is such innovators and top brains that easily get presidential handshakes and public finances in countries like Japan and the results are there for us to see. The Ntambi project will clearly demonstrate to Ugandans if president Museveni is really committed to science education aimed at job creation.

If these young scientists are ignored, they will swiftly vanish to the West!
