THE rugby Lady Cranes have started weekend residential training sessions in Mukono as they step up preparations for the Sevens Rugby World Cup that kicks off in Dubai on March 5.

Coach David Mutaka and his assistant Robert Seguya chose Mukono to keep players away from destruction in the city.

“Players are more focused in residential training and it has shown in the performance. They are performing well in training and the level of commitment is commendable. We have just intensified training since we have no build-up games,” Mutaka stated.

The squad which trains at Mukono’s Uganda Christian University enters camp on Friday and leaves on Sunday.

The training schedule starts with a roadwork at 6:30am before they take to the pitch from 11:00am to 1:00pm. There is an afternoon session and team-talk at night.

The Lady Cranes are drawn in group D, together with South Africa, Italy and top ranked New Zealand.

Rugby world governing body, the International Rugby Board, expects the inaugural Women Sevens World Cup with 16 teams to attract a lot of attention.

The women’s event will be played along side the men’s World Cup involving 24 teams from across the globe.
