SAMEER Agriculture and Livestock managing director Anand Gaggar has defended their milk products as safe and internationally tested and certified.

The media reported that Syria that has been the leading importer of powder milk from Uganda has halted its importation after finding huge chunks of faecal matter in it.
The powder milk is processed by the Sameer, which was formerly Uganda Diary Corporation.

However, Gaggar said: “There is no milk from us to Syria that has been banned. We have been certified by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics. We have invested millions of dollars in our production to ensure consumer safety and quality.”

Trade state minister Eng. Gaggawala Wambuzi yesterday said he had received reports that someone in Kenya, who did not want Uganda to export milk through Mombasa was trying to block the exports, adding that this could be part of the plot.

“Our containers are being blocked. We have petitioned the Kenyan trade ministry. The Kenyan trade minister in consultation with our envoy, Brig. Matayo Kyaligonza, has instructed that milk exports from Uganda should not suffer these unnecessary barriers,” Gaggawala said.
