59 Luweero teachers transferred, 45 get warning letters

FIFTY nine primary school teachers in Luweero district have been transferred and another 45 given warning letters, following the district’s poor performance in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).

FIFTY nine primary school teachers in Luweero district have been transferred and another 45 given warning letters, following the district’s poor performance in last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE).
About 1,800 pupils failed out of the 9,437 who sat the examinations in Luweero. Only 281 pupils passed in Division One.
Five head teachers were also transferred.
“Our performance in PLE leaves a lot to be desired. The number of failures was too big,†the district education officer, Edward Kisekka, said while announcing the results at a head teachers’ meeting in Luweero on Wednesday.
Kisekka said some of the head teachers spent a lot of time out of their schools, resulting in poor supervision of the teachers.
He added that some of the schools had not produced a single first grade for the last four years.
The chief administrative officer, Nelson Kirenda, said the transfers were part of a process to streamline the staffing of the schools.
