SIRONKO - The district has only one medical doctor serving over 350,000 people. Sironko deputy chief administrative officer Peter Wotunyu told the Minister for the Presidency, Beatrice Wabudeya, that the district had advertised for doctors but none applied. He was speaking during a NAADS sensitisation workshop at Asher’s Resources Centre. Wotunyu said the district faced an increment in maternal deaths of about 86%.

Residents register

SOROTI - About 3,691 people living with HIV/AIDS in 30 landing sites in Kasilo county have registered with Kasilo Community Based Health care programme.
The programme coordinator, Jimmy Otim, said each sub-county had about 700 people living with HIV/AIDS. Otim was speaking during a refresher training for 60 village health teams from Pingire, Bugondo and Kadungulu sub-counties. He said their main objective was to introduce new preventive strategies and educate communities about circumcision, prevention of mother-to-child transmission and the use of condoms.

Tororo celebrates Janet post

TORORO - Born-again Christians of Ebenezer Gospel Ministry Church on Friday held a service and dinner to celebrate the appointment of First Lady Janet Museveni as Karamoja affairs state minister. “In a special way, we wish to share our pleasure and excitement with the First Family,” said Pastor Wodila. In January, Mrs. Museveni visited the church to close a women’s conference.
