Dear Doctor,
I am 24 years old. I get pain during sex, in the vagina and deeper. My boyfriend left me because we never enjoyed sex. I am scared of relationships. Help!

Daphine

Dear Daphine,
PAIN during sex is a common problem.
Vaginal infections may cause pain at the vagina entrance. Pain in the vagina may be due to little lubrication.

Women produce fluids which decrease friction and make sex enjoyable. Some women naturally produce little fluid. Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding may decrease fluids.

Prolonged foreplay increases fluids. Some women get a spasm of vagina muscles during sex because they fail to relax. Penetration is difficult and sex painful.

Bad experiences and fear of sex may cause it. An understanding lover and counselling can help. Please talk to a doctor. If necessary get referral to a gynaecologist. You will be fine.
