Sumertas tops Women’s Day golf

SEMRA Sumertas scored 40 stable-ford points to scoop the individual accolade at the International Women’s Day tournament at Uganda Golf Club on Sunday.

SEMRA Sumertas scored 40 stable-ford points to scoop the individual accolade at the International Women’s Day tournament at Uganda Golf Club on Sunday.

Semra beat Monica Ntege (38 points) and Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) president Jolly Karemera (37) to the top individual award.

Dorian Schlesinger won the men’s category with 41 points. Emmanuel Nyakori, Arthur Turakira and Paul Musoke topped group A, B and C respectively.

The Housing Finance team comprising Paul Musoke, Gilbert Atwoki, Abel Ongom and Patrick Kabonero won the team event with 110 points.

Pepsi II, Libra Energy and Kampala Casino were second, third and fourth respectively.

The tournament organised by Uganda Golf Club (UGC) women’s section, helped to raise funds for Forum for African Women Educationalist (FAWED) Uganda Charter.

The money raised from the tournament will fund scholarships for secondary school girls through FAWED.

Minister of Education and Sports Namirembe Bitamazire presided over the prize-giving ceremony.

UGC lady captain Fancy Ogweng and ULGU president Jolly Karemera helped Bitamazire give out awards before later taking centre stage with dance and singing in honour of women.
