HOIMA’s FUFA Zone 5 has lost the honour to host this year’s Western soccer Super Mini league to Fort Portal Zone 11.

A rift has developed between Hoima and the regional committee. Chris Kalibbala, the regional chairman and also zone 11 FUFA delegate told The New Vision that the committee that sat after the Zonal mini leagues confirmed Fort Portal as hosts.

He said the decision was based on the fact that Hoima has hosted the tournament before and that the zone has only two active districts.

Zone 6 champions Nyamityobora will be joined by Mbugu FC, Horizon FC and Umoja while Kasese Young, Bunyaruguru Tigers and McAlister Kyogyera will represent zone 11.

Mbarara hosted last year’s event where current regional representative Mbarara United emerged top after a 1-0 win over Kasese Young.

The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has set May 2 as the kick off date for all regional super mini league tournaments.

Meanwhile, Kampala United FC and Nsumba BSC defended their Women’s Day football trophies in the national gala at Nakivubo stadium on Sunday, reports Silvano Kibuuka.

Kampala United emerged overall winner in the round robin competition after beating Entebbe Ladies 1-0 and drawing 1-1 against Hearts FC. Nsumba BSC defeated Lubiri Secondary School in the final at Nakivubo while Nsumba Primary also emerged champions after beating African Child 1-0.

The tournament attracted 20 schools both in the primary and secondary category.

Women football representative to the FUFA executive Florence Bagunywa handed over the trophies to the winners.
