LAWRENCE Ssematimba and Nandi Kishore have been recalled to the national cricket team.

The squad to compete at the World Cup Qualifier next month was released yesterday with minimal changes made to the side which guided Uganda to second place in January’s ICC Division 3 World Cricket League in Argentina.

The inclusion of the two batsmen coupled with the dropping of 18-year-old Emmanuel Nakaana are the only alterations made to the team.

Raymond Otim, Fred Isabirye and Ahmed Yakoub were not considered to make the team. Junior Kwebiha remains captain.
Uganda coach Ebrahim Mohammed is convinced the squad has the resources to boost the team’s batting, the one department which was identified post-Argentina as being in need of improvement.

“We have such a strong middle order but it’s now up to the players to come to the party,” Mohammed said.

“It’s now about producing the goods when it matters.”

Ssematimba and Kishore were part of the Ugandan team that finished fifth at the ICC World Cricket League Division 2 in Namibia in 2007 with Ssematimba grossing 67 runs in four innings and Kishore 152 in five innings.

Mohammed spoke of Ssematimba, who was just dropped for the Argentina trip as always being “a member of the team”.

The coach also revealed Kishore would have been taken to Argentina if he had seen him playing.
Nakaana, who was used once in Argentina, has not been as fortunate but Mohammed says he still has “time on his side”.
