NATIONAL Social Security Fund (NSSF) has sunk sh35m into the Uganda Table Tennis Association international tournament due April 2-5.

The ITTF-sanctioned tournament has attracted teams from Kenya, Tanzania, Burundi, DR Congo, Nigeria, Sweden, South Africa and hosts Uganda. About 300 players and six international umpires are expected.

The UTTA president Emmanuel Matsyetsye appreciated the NSSF gesture for once again responding to their call. “The package is timely as a number of countries have confirmed participation in the event,” he said.

NSSF deputy chief marketing and communications officer Olive Lumonya said that the fund is proud to be associated with the growth and development of table tennis in Uganda.

“As a socially responsible organisation, we are committed to supporting sports development in Uganda, especially disciplines such as table tennis that have historically not had sponsors,” she said. “Following the successful NSSF Open in March last year, we are comfortable and assured of proper accountability and transparency from UTTA. We are committed to this partnership and look forward to another successful event,” Lumonya added.
