APAC-The water hyacinth has re-invaded Kwania and Kyoga lakes, blocking most landing sites. Addressing residents at Kayei landing site last Saturday, the district fisheries officer, George Johnson Ojok, said: “The fish is suffocated by the weed and aquatic life is at risk.” He added that there were low fish catches and it had affected revenue collection as most fishing areas were covered by the weed. “The breeding places of fish are sometimes washed away by the hyacinth,” Ojok added.

Addressing a public awareness workshop on the proliferation of small arms and light weapons at Nami Hotel, Nickson Olwa said: “The strategy is for surveillance of guns in different institutions and civilians.” He said the presence of illegal small arms threatened security and development.
