MORE Pakistanis are to invest in Uganda, the Pakistani honorary envoy, Boney Katatumba, has said. Katatumba said Pakistani investors had already sunk money in various businesses in the country and were enjoying a cordial relationship with Ugandans.

He said the Pakistanis who constitute up to 80% of the car importers in Uganda, would also increase their investments in the education, health and technology sectors.

Katatumba said the continued cooperation between Uganda and Pakistan had boosted trade between the two countries. He asked Ugandan traders to explore the market for agricultural produce in Pakistan.

“Pakistan has greatly improved its trading relations with Uganda since 2002 when I was appointed the consul. “Pakistan is now the eighth best trading country in Uganda, jumping from the 18th place in 2002,” he noted.

Katatumba was speaking at the commemoration of 69 years of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan at his residence in Muyenga, a Kampala suburb on Monday.

Isaac Musumba, the regional affairs state minister, said the Government was committed to increasing economic cooperation with Pakistan.

He said Uganda would this year host the World Islamic Economic Forum to which several Pakistani investors will participate.
